I'll play anywhere for NSW Origin: Klemmer

David Klemmer on Monday took out the Brad Fittler medal as the Blues' players' player at the NSW awards night.

He's just the second player to win the Brad Fittler medal as an interchange player but David Klemmer has refused to demand a starting spot in next year's State of Origin series.

Klemmer beat James Tedesco and Jake Trbojevic to be crowned the Blues' players' player at their annual awards night in Sydney on Monday.

He joined Steve Menzies as the only player to win the award despite never starting, after the Manly legend achieved the feat in 2006.

"I'm pretty shocked. To get an award from one of the greats of the game in Brad Fittler is pretty special," Klemmer said.

"I just want to keep being here for a long time hopefully.

"We're trying to build something special here. We started well this year but unfortunately we didn't follow through with it. It's a burning desire to win a series.

"Hopefully next year will be my fourth (series). I just want to win a series."

Klemmer made headlines in the aftermath of the Blues' game-three loss when he revealed then-coach Laurie Daley told the Canterbury star he'd start in Brisbane.

However Daley backflipped on his decision and stuck with Andrew Fifita, who struggled to repeat his game-one heroics for the rest of the series.

Klemmer said he was happy to play anywhere for the Blues.

"It doesn't worry me. I still played football and represented this state. It's awesome. You don't have to worry about all that stuff," he said.

"You put a jersey on and you play football. My role's off the bench. That's where I played it and I did my role for the team."

Fittler said players like Klemmer were needed in every successful team.

"I love his passion, that's what it's all about," he said.

"He's wild, throws himself into the contest and at a time when there seems to be a lot of tactics going on, it seems like he really wants to hurt the opposition.

"That's what we need."
