Authorities have seized up to $80,000 of illegal ivory products in Sydney.

Two people are under investigation following raids by the Federal Department of Environment and New South Wales Police on two-inner-Sydney locations over illegal ivory ornaments and jewellery.

The discovery is a result of online monitoring by the International Fund for Animal Welfare, or IFAW.

Regional director Isabel McCrea told Georgie Moore global demand for ivory is rising, with up to 50,000 elephants being killed each year.
