In Canberra, a wider look at conflict in Myanmar

In recent weeks, thousands of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims, an unrecognised minority in the majority-Buddhist country, have fled their homeland to escape persecution.

As their flight dominates world headlines, the broader issue of conflict in Myanmar has dominated a forum of politicians, academics, business and government officials in Canberra.

The biannual event, hosted by the Australian National University, comes at a poignant time as thousands of Rohingya remain stranded in the waters off south-east Asia.
