Demonstrators staged anti-globalisation and anti-capitalism protests around the UK in the lead up to the G8 summit in Northern Ireland.
British Prime Minister David Cameron hosted leaders of the world's top industrialised countries at the G8 summit in Eniskillen in Northern Ireland.
They met for talks on issues such as free trade, tax evasions and transparency. The ongoing violence in Syria has dominated discussions, with US President Barack Obama urging Russia to back away from its support of President Bashar al-Assad.
More than 8,000 police officers were deployed to Belfast, where demonstrators gathered for to protest against the summit.

Hundreds of riot police were deployed throughout central London. A building was occupied by demonstrators in Soho and there was a stand-off between protesters and police in Piccadilly as officers blocked access to Fortnum & Mason. The historic shop was targeted during protests against government cuts in 2011 (AAP).
