About one third of India's population has no access to electricity, but with a growing demand for power the Indian government is working towards building the nation's power supply.

India is the world's fourth largest consumer of electricity and almost a decade ago set itself a target to have power for all by 2012- a target that it has failed to meet.

The goal for India's government is to increase the production of nuclear energy, which currently provides three per cent of India's power, lowering its dependence on coal and gas.
