India nuclear deal 'irresponsible'

An anti-nuclear group in India has labelled Prime Minister Tony Abbott highly irresponsible for sealing a deal for Australian companies to sell uranium to New Delhi.

An anti-nuclear group in India has labelled Prime Minister Tony Abbott highly irresponsible for sealing a deal for Australian companies to sell uranium to New Delhi.

Mr Abbott confirmed the agreement while meeting with India's prime minister, Narendra Modi.

Mr Modi says the deal is a reflection of a new level of mutual trust and confidence and will open a new chapter in bilateral co-operation.

S.P Udhayakumar is the co-ordinator of the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy Coordinator.

He told Sonja Heydeman, the decision shows a grave lack of insight.
