Indian cricketer Amit Mishra has been charged with causing grievous injuries to a woman in his hotel room in Bangalore.
Police officer Sandeep Patil declined to give details of the incident last month in the capital of southern Indian state Karnataka.
According to the Press Trust of India news agency, the woman said she had known Mishra for three years. She said she had an argument with Mishra in his hotel room on September 27 and he assaulted and abused her.
Mishra has been released on bail. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison. Mishra was not immediately available for comment.
The 32-year-old legspinner has played 16 Tests and 31 one-day internationals for India.
He has been selected for the first two tests against South Africa. The first match begins on November 5 in Mohali.
