Yash Shah, an 18-year-old in Surat city, western India, is vying for the world record of the world's most flexible man.

Mr Shah has demonstrated his flexibility to local media, contorting his arms and legs and turning his head almost 180 degrees.

He says it took him over two years of rigorous practice to learn the art, training on his own with the help of television and internet.

The young Indian is aiming to register his name in the Guinness Book of Records, India Book of Records and Limca Book of Records.

Currently, the title of the 'Most flexible Indian' is held by Jaspreet Singh, a 17-year-old from the northern city of Ludhiana.

Shah said he derives his inspiration from American contortionist Daniel Browning Smith, who is considered the world's most flexible man.
