Indigenous Australian artists have been celebrated at a London function hosted by the Australian High Commission and the British Council for the Arts.

The five artists were the beneficiaries of the 2013 Accelerate program, now in its fourth year.

Accelerate, a joint initiative of the Australian and British Councils for the Arts, aims to invest in the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts and artists in the Australian cultural landscape.

It came about in in response to a lack of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in positions of leadership and influence within the creative sector.

Photomedia artist Michael Cook, curator Kimberley Moulton, print maker Solomon Booth, administrator Ron Bradford Jnr and artistic director Andrea James were the stars of the London function.

The talented five have participated in intensive leadership skills development, mentoring and placements in Australia.

They will now spend the next three weeks in the UK making global connections in their respective industries.

Applications for  Accelerate 2014 will open early next year.
