Indigenous community 'anxiety' over budget cuts

The Aboriginal Human Rights Commissioner says cuts to the federal Indigenous budget might not be a bad thing, provided the government doesn't abandon its pre-election commitments to close the gap.

Cuts to the federal Indigenous budget might not be a bad thing, provided the government doesn't abandon its pre-election commitments to close the gap.

So says Aboriginal Human Rights Commissioner Mick Gooda, who thinks cutting waste and bureaucracy can be done without sacrificing vital services.

However Mr Gooda told Karen Ashford, Indigenous communities will remain worried they could lose out unless the government includes them in the reform process.
