Elise Hull from Bathurst in western NSW made the trek to Sydney to try-out for the Indigenous Marathon Project in March and will now take part in this weekend’s New York City Marathon.
Being in the Project has transformed Ms Hull into a running dynamo, whose love of the sport has seen her tackling tasks she never thought were possible. She says, just like the other runners, she's now ready for anything.
Fellow Indigenous Marathon Project member Charmaine Patrick says the program hasn't just taught her valuable lessons about how far the body and mind can go, but it's also improved her health. Ms Patrick has even quit smoking.
Since the final make-up of the squad was announced earlier this year, the team has pushed themselves to the limits in training.
After months of gruelling preparation and competing in half-marathons, the runners say they will tackle New York with everything they have.
