Researchers say they've debunked the belief that Europe was the birthplace of art, after finding a 40,000 year old cave painting on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
The stencil was made at about the same time as early humans were leaving artwork on cave walls around Europe.
The European art was thought to be the first in the world.
But the University of Wollongong's Dr Anthony Dosseto says dating of the Indonesian art has changed what scientists previously thought about such inscriptions.
He described the findings to Peggy Giakoumelos.
