IndyCar condenses 2014 schedule

IndyCar organisers have decided to run the 18-race 2014 season over five months, eliminating gaps that plagued the motor racing series this year.

The IndyCar Series will compress its 2014 season into five months and end in California in late August.

The schedule does not include Brazil and Baltimore and adds the inaugural road course race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

IndyCar will run 18 races, which includes three double-headers. Detroit, Houston and Toronto will again host the double-headers, but Houston will move its races from October to June.

The season will open on March 30 in St Petersburg, Florida, and end on August 30 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

The condensed schedule eliminates the long gaps that plagued IndyCar this season, including the month-long break it had between Baltimore in early September and the Houston races two weeks ago.
