Infidelity concerns reason for Vic murder

A man has confessed to stabbing his wife numerous times in Melbourne's west because he believed she was unfaithful.

Anxiety about his wife's infidelity allegedly caused a west Melbourne man to fatally stab her, a court has heard.

Brunswick West man Parminder Singh, 29, confessed to stabbing his wife Nikita Chawla to death in a jealous rage because of suspicions she was unfaithful.

Magistrate John Doherty heard Singh went home to confront his wife on Thursday night over his belief she was having an affair.

It is alleged Singh went through text messages on his wife's mobile phone before using a knife to stab her numerous times early on Friday morning, prosecutors told the court.

The accused sat in the dock with his head bowed as the court heard details of the incident.

Singh has been remanded in custody to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court on May 1.
