Ingles fined by NBA for sneaky groin hit

An NBA fine imposed on Australian Joe Ingles won't do too much damage to the $US52 million man's bank balance.

Australian Joe Ingles has been fined $US15,000 ($19,500) by the NBA for hitting Oklahoma City Thunder centre Steven Adams in the groin.

In the third quarter of Saturday's home game, Utah starter Ingles slid past Adams and sneakily struck him in the groin as the Kiwi was attempting to guard Jazz centre Rudy Gobert under the basket.

Ingles also made headlines in the contentious game for verbally jousting with Thunder rookie, and former Adelaide 36ers' NBL player, Terrance Ferguson.

Kiki VanDeWeghe, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations, announced the fine on Tuesday.

The fine will not do too much damage to Ingles' bank account.

In the off-season the Jazz signed him to a four-year $US52 million ($A67 million) contract.

The incident occurred with 8:53min remaining in the third quarter of the Jazz's 96-87 win over the Thunder on Saturday.
