Former Australian seamer Ben Hilfenhaus is making an early exit from English county cricket after being ruled out for up to six weeks with a hip injury.
The 32-year-old will leave England on Friday after playing just seven matches for Nottinghamshire.
"I've loved my time at Trent Bridge; it's a special place to play cricket for sure and a great set of guys," Hilfenhaus said on Thursday.
"I've always wanted give it a go in county cricket and I was looking forward to getting stuck into it for the next couple of months.
Hilfenhaus played a key role in the team's vital division one win over Worcestershire but there is work still to do to avoid the drop, with the side now assessing potential short-term replacements.
Director of cricket Mick Newell said the news was disappointing.
"Disappointing for Ben who gave everything during his time with us and disappointing for Notts because we wanted him to become a key player between now and the end of the season," Newell said.
"The injury will rule him out for around six weeks so, between ourselves and the player, we've decided it's best for him to return home early.
"It means we can look to bring in a replacement should a player of sufficient quality become available, and it allows Ben to focus on being fully fit for the Australian season with Tasmania."
