Injured Boult to return home

A back injury to Trent Boult has ruled the in-form seam bowler out of the remainder of the Black Caps' tour of England.

New Zealand's premier bowler Trent Boult will miss the rest of New Zealand's tour of England with a back injury.

A New Zealand Cricket statement issued on Monday morning said Boult had suffered a stress-related injury and would return home for assessment, ruling him out of the final three one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international.

The 25-year-old left-armer was New Zealand's man of the series in their 1-1 drawn Test campaign against England, taking 13 wickets at 24.84.

He was also the pick of the Black Caps bowlers in the first two ODIs, taking six wickets in a series being dominated by batsmen.

His absence for the third ODI in Southampton handed a debut to another left-arm seamer, Ben Wheeler, who took 3-63 in New Zealand's three-wicket win.

Boult is the second New Zealander ruled out of the tour, following allrounder Corey Anderson, who suffered a similar injury in the first Test last month.

Auckland batsman Colin Munro, who is playing for Worcestershire on a country contract, has joined the squad as a replacement for the injured Corey Anderson.

There was no update as to a replacement for Boult.

Boult's form over the last year has resulted in a rise to fourth in the Test bowler rankings and fifth in the ODI list.

He finished level with Australian Mitchell Starc with 22 scalps at the cricket World Cup to lead the wicket-taking stakes.

New Zealand's next series is scheduled to be in South Africa in August although there is the possibility of limited overs games in Zimbabwe before that.
