South Australian paceman Joe Mennie hopes to be cleared next week to resume exercise after recovering from a skull fracture and brain bleeding.
Mennie was struck in the side of the head by a ball while training with his BBL outfit the Sydney Sixers on January 23.
The fast bowler will have more scans next week with Redbacks physiotherapist John Porter expecting Mennie to be cleared to resume exercise.
Mennie is slated to return to playing in the last Sheffield Shield round in mid-March, or the competition decider should SA make the playoff.
"Probably the conservative approach would be the Shield final," Porter said on Thursday.
"If we can get him up and going relatively quickly as from next week, then he's a chance to play the last Shield round."
Mennie, who made his Test debut last November, was suffering no adverse symptoms in his recovery.
"Joe is tracking really well ... he has just got to undergo a period of minimal exercise until we're sure that everything is healed fully," Porter said.
"If the scans are clear then we actually expect him to progress pretty quickly, it's just a precaution to get them done at the expected healing time.
"Nothing has gone wrong in his recovery so far.
"He's doing everything in his daily life normally without any symptoms so we're really confident he's going to be able to resume activity pretty quickly."
