Injured Pendlebury still in Magpies' mix

Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury is struggling with an ankle injury, but coach Nathan Buckley is confident he can recover in time to play St Kilda.

Collingwood AFL skipper Scott Pendlebury remains in the frame to take on St Kilda this week despite only making a brief appearance at training on Wednesday.

Pendlebury, 27, suffered an ankle injury in the loss to Adelaide, but coach Nathan Buckley said the skipper was still every chance of taking on the Saints on Friday night.

"He moved pretty well, so he's in the mix, and he stayed in the mix because of what he did today," Buckley said after the Pies' main training session.

"It was quite encouraging.

"(But) he needs to know in his own mind that he's right to go ... he knows his body really well. He's a professional in how he goes about it so if he puts his hand up and ticks a few boxes from our side of things then he'll play."

Midfielder Taylor Adams also picked up an ankle injury in the 27-point loss to the Crows and did stationary drills while wearing a moon boot on his right foot.

However, Buckley said the Pies had always planned to rest the former GWS onballer, who will need to pass a fitness test on Thursday in order to play.

Buckley will need to make at least one change to his side after Ben Sinclair suffered a hamstring injury at Etihad Stadium.

The coach said several players put in strong performances in the VFL, but key defender Ben Reid was still a minimum of two weeks from returning to AFL action.

Collingwood and St Kilda each have one win after two rounds and Buckley won't be taking last year's wooden spooner lightly after their road win against Gold Coast.

"They've got a hard running, young side who are prepared to play four quarters out," he said.

"They've got some weapons up front (as well), so we're definitely not going to be underestimating them."

Buckley said that he had no new information to offer on the plight of Josh Thomas and Lachie Keeffe, who remain provisionally banned after testing positive to Clenbuterol, as they await the outcome of testing of their B sample.

The coach said he didn't believe the club would now the outcome of the tests for about a week.
