Injury forces Banting's Tahiti withdrawal

Australian pro surfer Matt Banting has been forced to withdraw from the Tahiti leg of the World Surf League championships due to an ongoing knee injury.

Australia's Matt Banting has withdrawn from the Tahiti leg of the World Surf League (WSL) championships due to an ongoing knee injury.

This is the second competition the Port Macquarie surfer has been forced to withdraw from after sustaining the injury during a freesurf before the Jeffreys Bay competition in July.

"Because it's bruised bone you never know how bad it is ... it was hurting pretty bad and once it got cold it swelled up and we knew something happened for sure, Banting said in a WSL statement.

Banting will be replaced by fourth reserve and compatriot Garrett Parkes from Byron Bay.
