Inquiry eyes terrorist citizenship bill

A parliamentary committee has opened an inquiry into new national security laws that would strip Australian citizenship from terrorists.

An inquiry has been launched into draft laws making it easier for dual-citizen Australians convicted of terrorism offences to be stripped of their citizenship.

The parliament's intelligence and security committee has set down a public hearing for January 30 with written submissions due by January 11.

Anyone convicted of a relevant terror offence after December 12, 2005, could lose their Australian citizenship under the draft laws introduced to parliament on November 28.
