The Clean Energy Finance Corporation has named ex-Macquarie Group director Ian Learmonth as its new CEO.

Investment banker Ian Learmonth has been appointed the new chief executive officer of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.

Mr Learmonth, a former executive director at Macquarie Group and now investment leader at Social Ventures Australia, will take over from Oliver Yates on May 15.

"His diverse experience, demonstrated leadership and strategic thinking will serve the CEFC well in the next phase of our activities as we continue to deliver on our mission to catalyse new investment into the clean energy sector," CEFC chair Jillian Broadbent said in a statement on Friday.
