Island deal could mean tourism venture

Parties interested in buying a Bass Strait island might have tourism plans for the 16-hectare mound, the selling agent says.

A Bass Strait island which failed to sell at auction over the weekend could be about to change hands, with the prospective buyers eyeing an eco-tourism venture.

The 16-hectare Ninth Island - after which the well-known wine label is named - is about 11km from Tasmania's northeast coast and fell $6000 short of the vendor's $1.196 million asking price on Saturday.

But selling agent Jack Lim from Fletchers told News Corp negotiations are continuing with two interested parties and he believed eco-tourism is among their plans for the remote island.
