Istanbul hostage crisis ends in tragedy

Officials in Turkey say an Istanbul prosecutor has died from his wounds after security forces stormed the office where members of a banned leftist group had taken him hostage.

Officials in Turkey say an Istanbul prosecutor has died from his wounds after security forces stormed the office where members of a banned leftist group had taken him hostage.

They say two hostage-takers were killed when security forces launched the operation to end a six-hour standoff.

Mehmet Selim Kiraz was investigating the killing of Berkin Elvan, who died last March after injuries sustained in anti-government protests.

Seref Isler, from the BBC World Service's Turkish section in London, spoke earlier to Peggy Giakoumelos.
