Istanbul to host first men's tennis event

Turkey will host its first men's tour event, the Istanbul Open claycourt tennis event, next year in Istanbul.

The ATP has announced Turkey will host its first men's tour event, the Istanbul Open, in 2015.

The claycourt tournament will take place from April 27-May 3, a week before the Madrid Open.

It will be held at the Koza World of Sports, billed as the largest tennis academy in the world, with 63 indoor and outdoor courts. The centre court has a retractable roof.

ATP executive chairman and president Chris Kermode said: "This incredible new facility in Istanbul will make a wonderful addition to the many remarkable venues that feature on the ATP World Tour".

Turkey's addition to the ATP Tour schedule means there will be 62 tournaments in 32 countries in 2015.

Istanbul previously hosted the WTA's season-ending championships from 2011-13.
