Italy beat Argentina in Davis Cup tie

Italy are into the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup after taking an unbeatable 3-1 lead over Argentina in their World Group first-round tie

Italy reached the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup when Fabio Fognini defeated Carlos Berlocq of Argentina on Sunday to give them an unassailable 3-1 lead in the World Group first-round tie.

Fognini downed Berlocq 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-1 6-4 in three hours and 38 minutes.

It's Italy's first victory over Argentina in Davis Cup play, and the loss ends Argentina's 12-year streak of reaching the quarter-finals.

Italy took control on Saturday when doubles pair Fognini and Simone Bolelli beat Argentina's Eduardo Schwank and Horacio Zeballos.
