Italy book Rugby League World Cup spot

Italy have secured a place in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup with a 76-0 win over Russia.

Italy have defeated Russia 76-0 to secure the 14th and final spot for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.

Former Hull KR five-eighth Terry Campese scored 24 points in a man-of-the-match performance as the largely Australia-based Azzurri qualified for their second successive World Cup and will take their place in pool D alongside Fiji and USA.

Russia, made up entirely of players from the domestic competition, were down to a squad of 16 at the end of their European qualifying campaign and were outclassed from the start.

Mason Cerruto and Richard Lepori scored two tries apiece as Italy led 46-0 at halftime and Justin Castellaro and Col Wilkie also touched down twice after the break before Campese got Italy's 14th and final try 10 minutes from the end and kicked his 10th goal.
