Italy prop Martin Castrogiovanni is set to miss Saturday's Six Nations match against Scotland after being bitten on the nose by a dog.

The 33-year-old needed 14 stitches in a wound inflicted by a friend's dog, with the Italian rugby federation describing it as a "slight domestic incident".

Veteran forward Castrogiovanni has made 109 appearances for Italy and currently plays for French club Toulon with Australians Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell.

He was fined and given a suspended ban in December over his public criticism of Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

Argentine-born Castrogiovanni spent seven seasons at English club Leicester.
