A former NSW Liberal leader is calling on Prime Minister Tony Abbott to allow his party members a conscience vote on same-sex marriage.

Dubbing herself a "right-winger", Kerry Chikarovski believes it will surprise people that she thinks it is wrong to allow marriage discrimination to continue.

"It's time for the Prime Minister to bring the legislation to the party room, let his colleagues debate the bill and determine if they should have a conscience vote," she writes in The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday.
