A contractor has been fired from Sydney nightclub Ivy after music interrupted the Anzac Day dawn service at Martin Place.

The contractor was sacked shortly after he accessed the George St venue and conducted an unauthorised sound test for an event to be held later on Saturday.

The music could be heard over the dawn service at nearby Martin Place.

"We are mortified and deeply upset about noise reports during the dawn service and apologise unreservedly to those in attendance for any disturbance," a spokeswoman for club operator Merivale said in a statement.

"(The contractor) behaved in a terribly insensitive and completely unacceptable, thoughtless way. That contractor was immediately terminated this morning."

Merivale said it worked with police to close Ivy at 2am, 90 minutes earlier than normal, to reduce noise and crowding around the venue when people arrived at the dawn service.

More than 30,000 people attended the dawn service.
