Japan thrash Spain 40-7 in rugby

Japan scored four tries to one to beat Spain 40-7 in a rugby union Test in Madrid.

Japan routed Spain 40-7 in a rugby Test on Saturday, with fullback Ayumu Goromaru scoring from six of seven penalty kicks.

Japan led 15-7 by halftime in the Spanish capital after Goromaru made his first five penalty kicks.

Cesar Sampere scored Spain's sole try in the 36th minute while Japan was a man down with Luke Thompson excluded for 10 minutes.

Shota Horie scored a try while Japan was still missing a player in the 47th to extend the lead to 20-7.

Goromaru finally missed his sixth penalty kick, but succeeded at his seventh in the 52nd for a 23-7 lead.

Japan then added three more tries to complete the demolition.
