Buddhist monks across Japan have been posting videos of themselves on social media skipping, juggling, and skateboarding.

Using the hashtag that translates to "I can do it in monk's robe," they intend to show just how unrestrictive their traditional garb is.

It comes after a fellow monk was fined for driving while wearing his kimono because police said the clothing  "could affect safe driving".

According to local newspaper the Yomiuri Shimbun, police were concerned about the length of the sleeves and robe.

The monk is refusing to pay the 6,000 Japanese yen ($79) fine and many in his community are rallying behind him.

Some of the videos have been retweeted more than 14,000 times.
