The Japan Professional Football League said on Friday it had decided to fine Yokohama F Marinos five million yen ($A52,150) over racist behaviour by one of their supporters.

Yokohama banned the teenager indefinitely soon after he waved a banana towards a Brazilian player in the match against Kawasaki Frontale on August 23.

Yokohama said the fan admitted his behaviour towards Kawasaki's attacker Renato was an "act of provocation" during the 2-0 win.

The incident came about five months after the J-League forced Urawa Reds to hold a game behind closed doors as a penalty for their supporters displaying a racist banner at a stadium entrance, which was not removed until after the March 8 home game.
