Jasika falls at last Open hurdle

Australia has 18 confirmed starters in its home grand slam after both Omar Jasika and Dane Propoggia lost their final qualifying matches.

US Open junior champion Omar Jasika won't play in the Australian Open after falling at the last stage of qualifying.

The 17-year-old Victorian lost his third round qualifying match to Romanian Marius Copil 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 in 90 minutes on Saturday.

Fellow Australian Dane Propoggia also lost a tense third-round qualifer against Briton Kyle Edmund 6-7 (7-3) 6-4 9-7 to miss his shot at a maiden grand slam appearance.

The pair were the only two Australians to reach the third round of qualifying for the Australian Open, confirming the number of locals in the main draw.

Eight women fly the flag for Australia, with 10 men competing in the 2015 Open.
