Jason Day gets Wallabies boost

Jason Day is hoping for double world No.1 celebrations with the Wallabies as he attempts to become the world's top-ranked golfer.

Jason Day is hopeful of a double world No.1 celebration with the Wallabies after being boosted by their support ahead of the BMW Championship.

Thanks to Wallabies utility back Kurtley Beale, a mad golf fan, the Australian rugby team had a World Cup squad signed jersey organised for Day during their recent stay in Chicago where they beat the USA 47-10.

Day, who was unable to attend the match due to playing commitments in Boston, was humbled by the gesture when presented with the jersey ahead of his quest to become world No.1 this week.

"The Wallabies represent everything that is good about Australia," Day said.

"They are a great team. A great bunch of guys and a cohesive unit on and off the field.

"I am humbled to receive this jersey and it adds to the excitement of trying to become the best in the world when they are embarking on the same journey at the World Cup in England this month.

"I have no doubt they have what it takes to win the World Cup and prove themselves the best in the world. Hopefully I can do the same in the next two weeks."

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika says Day's recent form and quest to be the best has inspired his squad ahead of their opening game against Fiji on Wednesday.

"Jason is phenomenal. One of the things we have been trying to do to become a great team is get consistent and it is clear Jason is putting up some consistent great golf," Cheika said.

"As a coach you can appreciate the discipline of the man when he is able to deliver such consistency in one of the most competitive sports in the world.

"It is inspiring to all Australians and we as a playing group are very proud of him and what he is achieving. We know there are more big wins to come for Jason and wish him well."

Day can become world No.1 with a win this week provided Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are not runners up.
