Lawyers for an Australian man on trial after a drug raid in Indonesia will argue he is a long-time user of marijuana who deserves leniency.
Prosecutors argue Andrew Roger, 51, should be convicted of drug dealing, after considering the stash allegedly seized from his home.
He faces up to 20 years' jail, however Indonesian courts are lenient to people who can prove drug dependency.
Roger's trial on Monday heard he was in a room with two women at his Surabaya home in May, when police, acting on a tip-off, seized 800 grams of marijuana, methamphetamine and pills, including ecstasy and ketamine.
Online news service tribunnews.com reported prosecutor Oja Miasta was pushing for dealing charges, given the amount of drugs seized.
"For that, we wait for the testimony of other witnesses in the next session," he said.
But lawyer for the former Darwin man, Erick Komala, says there's scant evidence to support this.
"From the policemen's testimony yesterday, they didn't show any such role," he told AAP on Tuesday.
"Even evidence in text messages is not available.
"I'm confused why the prosecutor would dare to put such a charge before him."
The lawyer says Roger is "in pain" after a motorbike accident a few months before his arrest, which meant he required surgery on his leg.
He will argue Roger, alias Roger Yeo, has been using marijuana for 30 years, and has trouble sleeping if he doesn't.
The trial continues next week.
