Slain Queensland teenager Jayde Kendall is being remembered as a popular, well-liked student whose death has left everyone from her family and friends to her school community reeling.

The 16-year-old's body was found at Upper Tenthill, about 17km from her home town of Gatton on Thursday morning after she had been missing for two weeks.

The Lockyer District State High School, where Jayde was a student, previously displayed messages of support in the search for information on Jayde's whereabouts

On Friday, it was instead extending sympathies to her family.

"We will miss you Jayde, rest in peace," a message board at the front of the school read.

Students arriving for class consoled one another before a makeshift shrine where messages to her family were pinned on a board and some of her artwork was displayed.

The school community was deeply shocked and saddened, Education Queensland Regional Director Greg Dickman said.

"She was a popular, well-liked student who will be greatly missed by all her friends and teachers," he said.

"Support is being provided to students and staff, and guidance counsellors will remain at the school to provide support in any way they can and for as long as it is needed."

In Brisbane, her 18-year-old school friend Brenden Jacob Bennetts, 18, faced court after being charged with murder and interfering with a corpse, and was remanded in custody until September 4.

A Facebook page set up during the long search for Jayde - last seen getting into Bennetts' car outside her school - urged Gatton residents to wear purple in her honour.

"Jayde impacted on the lives of all those who knew her because of her generous nature and kind soul," a post on the Help Find Jayde page says.

Lockyer Valley mayor Steve Jones said Jayde's loss had affected the entire shire and its 40,000 residents.

A memorial fund set up for the teenager's family with funeral costs had raised over $4,000 on Friday morning.
