Jazz outclassed in NBA series opener

The Utah Jazz, with Australians Joe Ingles and Dante Exum, have lost to NBA title favourites Golden State 106-94 in the Western Conference semi-finals opener.

The Utah Jazz, featuring Australians Joe Ingles and Dante Exum, have been outclassed by NBA title favourites Golden State in the opener of their NBA Western Conference semi-finals series.

The Warriors won 106-94 on their home court with superstar Stephen Curry finishing the game's top scorer with 22 points as well as seven rebounds in three quarters of work.

Starting forward Ingles contributed five points, two rebounds and four assists for the Jazz while bench player Exum added five points.

Rudy Gobert led the Jazz's tally at 13 points and eight rebounds, while Draymond Green and Kevin Durant wound up with 17 points each for the top-seeded Golden State Warriors.

Golden State had led 58-46 at halftime.

The Jazz were unable to make up any further ground in the second half, the Warriors enjoying the same 12-point buffer when the match concluded.

Meanwhile in the NBA's best-of-seven Eastern Conference semi-finals Isaiah Thomas scored 53 points, including nine in overtime, to help the Boston Celtics beat the Washington Wizards 129-119 and take a 2-0 lead.

Fiddling with the mouth guard he began using after losing one of his front teeth in Game 1, Thomas became the fourth player in the history of the NBA's most-decorated franchise to score 50 or more points in a post-season game.

It was also a career best in a playoff game for Thomas despite a rough post-season after his sister was killed in a car crash on the eve of the first round.

Thomas revealed in his post game press conference it would have been his sister Chyna Thomas' 23rd birthday.

"Today is my sister's birthday," he said.

"The least I can do is go out there and play for her."

John Wall had 40 points and 13 rebounds for the Wizards.

The series moves to Washington for Games 3 and 4 on Thursday and Sunday.
