Jealous fatal arsonist jailed in Vic

A man has been jailed for a minimum ten years after killing his ex-wife and her on-off partner by torching a Melbourne unit.

A truck driver who set fire to his love rival's flat, killing him and the "love of his life" will spend at least 10 years in jail.

David John Campbell, 45, was sentenced in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Friday over two counts of arson causing death after setting fire to the Deer Park flat between midnight and 1am on September 20, 2013.

Campbell says he believed no one was in the Department of Human Services flat at the time, but Genine Ballantine and Steven White, both aged 44, were found dead inside with their pet dog after emergency crews arrived.
