Jennifer Hawkins has set the tone for the launch of Myer's autumn-winter collection in Melbourne.
The model and face of Myer, strode down the catwalk on Thursday in a voluminous white Maticevski gown printed with inky-black images.
Maticevski's colours were muted, predominantly whites, evoking a snow queen aesthetic, and blacks.
The modest peplum, popular for the past few seasons, in Toni Maticevski's collection has grown and evolved into a larger, bouncier version of itself, worn on one side to create an asymmetrical silhouette.
It added a new dimension to the designer's typically sleek style, as did pops of sherbet orange.
"Tough chic" is how designer Aurelio Costarella characterised his winter designs also previewed at the launch.
On the catwalk he showed exclusively black garments, relying on combinations of cut-outs, leather, sheer panels and shimmering fabrics to provide diversity.
"We did a lot of still very classic but edgy pieces," Costarella told AAP.
"It's tough chic."
Stylist Lana Wilkinson said orange and teal would be colours featuring heavily throughout collections this winter.
"Teal is very strong and a bit of winter white, too," Wilkinson told AAP.
But she said the defining theme - as shown by Maticevski - would be shape.
"We're going to see a lot of structured shapes, a lot of interesting shapes," Wilkinson said.
The black and white theme was carried throughout Manning Cartel, Autonomy and Sass & Bide (though the latter was blacker).
Yeojin Bae brought blocks of colour, predominantly a fresh aqua, blended with blacks and neutral tones and red, which, the designer says, is her signature colour.
"The whole collection is very womanly," Bae told AAP.
"I'm very much about how to create a beautiful, sophisticated but sensuous figure.
"There's a lot of colour-blocking, a little bit of sheer panel and I'm all about splits. I love a split."
Featured on the catwalk were aqua, blue and peaches, but Bae says this was just a snippet of what shoppers can expect from her this winter.
"For me, even winter's all about colour. It's how I envisioned a lot of women will want to dress."
Aurelio Costarella also premiered a diffusion label, YTTRIUM, with which he hopes to reach a different audience.
"It's a diffusion label that's not actually taking on the same aesthetic as my core brand," he said. "It's more urban, it's a bit edgier."
