Jetstar will introduce daily return services between Avalon Airport and the Gold Coast from October.

Plans to increase flights to secure the airport's future were announced in April, but a date wasn't confirmed.

Minister for tourism and major events John Eren said it was a good deal for the Geelong and Werribee regions, and the rest of Victoria.

"With new daily flights to Avalon, more people will see Victoria's amazing attractions and visit our world renowned events," he told reporters on Thursday.

The Victoria Tourism Industry Council said visits to the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road would get a boost with direct access for the population of more than 500,000 people around the Gold Coast airport.

Flights to and from the Gold Coast will begin on October 26.
