Jewish camp leader sentenced for abuse

A former Jewish camp leader who indecently assaulted a teenageboy more than 20 years ago has been handed a 19-month suspended sentence.

50-year-old Daniel Hayman pleaded guilty to the assault of athen 14-year-old boy at a Jewish camp south of Sydney in the 1980s.

Hayman drove the man, who cannot be named, from Camp Gan Israel at Stanwell Tops to bushland where they collected firewood.

Hayman then grabbed the 14-year-old and abused him.

Magistrate David Williams says would send Hayman to prison ifthe offence happened today but was constrained by what the law wasat the time of the offence.
