Joan Rivers remains seriously ill

Joan Rivers' daughter has her "fingers crossed" for a full recovery as the 81-year-old remains seriously ill in a New York Hospital.

Joan Rivers' family remain hopeful the comedian will make a full recovery after going into cardiac arrest at a doctor's office late last week.

Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City after suffering cardiac and respiratory arrest during routine throat surgery at a nearby clinic.

She was placed in a medically-induced coma, and reports surfaced on Saturday that the 81-year-old had been placed on life support.

Rivers' daughter Melissa issued a brief update on Sunday, amid rumours suggesting doctors were slowly taking Rivers off life support.

"Thank you for your continued love and support. We are keeping our fingers crossed," she said in a statement.

Among those to visit Rivers in hospital over the weekend were the comic's close friend and frequent collaborator, Jay Redack, who tells the New York Daily that he was shocked when he heard of his pal's sudden health crisis.

Redack says had seen Rivers just hours before she was rushed to hospital.

"We talked about life, Melissa, boyfriends, tennis lessons, and talked about her act. Everything was going well for her."
