New figures suggest last month's strong labour force results, which included an unexpected drop in the jobless rate, will be hard to match after a sharp decline in job advertising.

The Department of Employment said job ads on the internet fell by a seasonally-adjusted 3.1 per cent in May with all eight occupational groups it monitors falling.

All states and territories reported a decline in advertising, led by an 8.4 per cent tumble in South Australia.
