Job ads rise for eighth straight month

Job advertisements have been on an eight-month winning streak but ANZ says the Reserve Bank has still got more work to do when it comes to cutting rates.

Job advertisements have posted their eighth straight month of growth but ANZ says the Reserve Bank will still need to cut interest rates further, as early as next month.

Job ads rose 1.3 per cent in January and are up 10 per cent over the year, according to ANZ's monthly job ads survey on Monday.

But despite the encouraging pickup, unemployment is still expected to rise to 6.5 per cent in 2015 and the RBA is likely to cut rates again, "most likely in March", ANZ chief economist Warren Hogan said.
