Job market needs responsible budget :Abetz

Employment Minister Eric Abetz concedes there is still a huge task to create job opportunities as the jobless rate ticked to 6.2 per cent.

Employment Minister Eric Abetz says the latest jobs figures show the need for a responsible federal budget.

The jobless rate ticked up to 6.2 per cent from 6.1 per cent in April with the number of people in employment falling by 2900.

"There is still a huge task to create more job opportunities for, in particular, young and mature-aged Australians," Senator Abetz said in a statement on Thursday.
