The number of job vacancies in Australia has fallen 1.7 per cent, official statistics show.

The total number of vacancies in November 2013 was 140,600, in seasonally-adjusted terms, compared with 143,100 in August, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics quarterly survey released on Wednesday.

There were 130,700 private sector job vacancies in November, down 0.7 per cent on August's 131,500.

The number of public sector vacancies in November was 10,000, down 13.8 per cent from August.

The survey is conducted every three months.
