John Lennon letter sells for $A30,000

In 1971 John Lennon sent a note to a US TV host begging him to listen to the musical talents of his wife Yoko Ono. Now it's sold for more than $A30,000.

A letter written by John Lennon has sold for more than $A30,000 at auction.

In the 1971 note, which was addressed to US TV host Joe Franklin, the Beatles legend praises the musical talents of his wife Yoko Ono and asks the small screen star to listen to her latest album.

The letter sold for more than $US28,000 ($A30,295) when it went under the hammer in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday night.

Other items auctioned off include stack of transfer sheets signed by the Beatles bandmembers, a Crosby, Stills and Nash gold record, autographed sheet music from Led Zeppelin and a pair of prescription glasses which once belonged to Joey Ramone.
