Johnson wins Ladies Scottish Open at 48

Australia's Rebecca Artis and Stephanie Na have fallen short in their bids to win the Ladies Scottish Open, won by Trish Johnson.

England's Trish Johnson has become the oldest winner in Ladies European Tour history by denying Australian duo Rebecca Artis and Stephanie Na at the Ladies Scottish Open.

The 48-year-old Johnson finished at seven-under par on Sunday after shooting a closing 73, sealed a two-shot victory over France's Gwladys Nocera.

Artis and Na sat a further shot in third, alongside Scotland's Sally Watson, after enjoying rounds of 66 and 67 respectively.

Nocera, who carded a 69 and clawed back four shots in the third and final round, posed the greatest threat at the start of the day but couldn't finish the job.

"With a six-shot lead (coming into the final round), I think if I'd thrown that away in perfect conditions, well... it was a difficult one, I played pretty well but I never got the putter going at all," Johnson said.

"I just didn't putt as well as the first two days but I didn't have the same mentality.

"I suppose that was because I was defending a little bit, which I didn't think I'd do."

Johnson nearly pulled out of the tournament with a back injury earlier in the week as she could hardly walk, but thanked the LET osteopath and masseuse, Chris Wilkes and Amanda Bailey, for helping her to recover in time to play and keeping her going.

"I wasn't expecting this," Johnson added after her 19th LET title.

"I had very low expectations and I guess that worked for me.

"I didn't have a practice round and I didn't play until Friday morning and probably played one of the best rounds of my life on Friday. I'm chuffed to bits."
