Australian golf star Matt Jones hopes to make a mad dash across the Atlantic so he doesn't miss two cuts on the same weekend.
Jones was the only Australian at Carnoustie not to survive the British Open halfway cut after following up a first-round 75 with a 76 on Friday for a nine-over-par 36-hole total.
"I wasn't playing good the whole week coming into it. I knew that so I was trying to battle but it didn't end up happening," he told AAP.
Fortunately for Jones, a rather significant family event didn't end up happening either while he was out on course.
The 38-year-old's wife Melissa is expecting their third daughter any time now back home in Arizona.
The former Miss Idaho was four days overdue after Jones finished his second round.
Not securing a weekend tee time might prove a blessing for the 2015 Australian Open champion, who hopes to make it back to the US in time for the birth.
"I've got to go inside and check some things on the phone - flights and stuff - and see what the options are," Jones said.
"So I can get home and maybe be there for it, which will be good."
